Performance Counters on Service Broker Transmission Queue

Hello,

is there built-in support for monitoring the number of elements in the transmission queue via performance counters?

Thanks,

There's no perfmon counter. Something like count () or sp_spaceused would be required to query the count. The message send perfmon counters probably are a better indication of what's happening at the connection level - depending on what you're trying to measure.|||

No performance counter. See this post for an efficient query to return the number of rows in the hidden table that represents the transmission queue: http://blogs.msdn.com/remusrusanu/archive/2006/11/08/fast-way-to-check-message-count.aspx

performance counters on a SAN

Hello,
Recently we moved our database servers onto a emc cx600 san. Since
the move I ran perfmon against the server for a week to try to get a
baseline of the server's performance. I am getting some curious
metrics from perfmon on the avg. disk queue lenth and %disk time for
the data drive for the sql server database. We have the same
dedicated spindle config as we did on our former system with the
difference being the greatly increased throughput of the new system.
Avg. disk queue lenth is reporting an avg. of over 30 for lengthy
periods of time(> 10 minutes) and %disk time is reporting an avg of
over 300 around the same time . The former system was not reporting
any performance bottlenecks. I wonder if the counters are skewed
somehow. Has anyone experienced any oddities with disk related
performance counter metrics on a san or am I suddenly looking at a
disk bottleneck? Is it possible that the increased throughput to the
san is now causing a disk bottleneck?
Let me know if more details are needed.
Thanks,
GregThanks for the reply. The logical drive is a 10 spindle raid 5, so
the avg. disk queue length would be 3. If I'm not mistaken an avg.
disk queue length of 2 or more for any extended period of time would
be considered a bottleneck. Also, a % disk time of 300 seems rather
high to me as well. I am just curious if these disk counters report
accurately on a san as there weren't any bottlenecks reported on the
former system which was much slower than this system all the way
around. To my knowledge there hasn't been a substantial change in
workload to suddenly cause this.

Performance counters on 64 bit SSIS

On 32 bit SSIS installations, both of the following performance counter objects are visible in perfmon.

SQLServer:SSIS Service

SQLServer:SSIS Pipeline

On 64 bit SSIS installations, only the following is available.

SQLServer:SSIS Service

The SQlServer:SSIS Pipeline counters are nowhere to be found.

Should I re-install? Is this a known issue with 64 bit SSIS?

P.S. Remote or local access administrative access with perfmon makes no difference, the "SQLServer:SSIS Pipeline" performance counters don't appear in the listbox when connecting to Windows 2003 x64 server.

Try running perfmon w/ 32-bit switch like so:

mmc.exe /32 perfmon.msc

Counters should show up.

|||

Halfway answered.

Local perfmon access to x64 "SQlServer:SSIS Pipeline" counters: yes

Remote perfmon access to x64 "SQlServer:SSIS Pipeline" counters: no

As to the local SSIS performance counter access on x64, using the SysWOW64 version of perfmon.exe does pick up the"SQlServer:SSIS Pipeline" counters.(e.g. C\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\perfmon.exe), so thanks for that.

Performance Counters not available after restart Take offline-Online

After stopping and starting the MSSQLSERVER service the Performance Counters are not available. After a reboot of the server they are there again. What is the proper way to shutdown the MSSQLSERVER process, starting it again and regaining access to the performance counters? The Unlodctr and lodctr sqlstr.ini trick seems not to work. A complete reboot of the server is needed.I've found that stopping and starting the MSSQL Service using the services mmc renders the performance log for SQLServer in accesible. However, stop and starting a SQLserver from the Enterprise Manger does not have that effect.

Performance Counters Missing

My SQL Server 2000 (SP2) performance counters are missing/corrupted. They
seem to be in the Performance COunter drop down, as a series of 4-digit
numbers. The SQL server runs on a active/passive Windows 2000
clusterconfiguration (W2K SP3). I've tried manually reloading them with
lodctr and the sqlctr.ini file looks clean. The other (passive) cluster
node doesn't have them either, but it also doesn't have the odd 4-digit
number entries in the drop down list of counters. Any help would be
appreciated.

Performance counters disappeared

I have an application written in C++ that querys all
available performance counters via RegQueryValueEx() API
at 10 second interval on some Windows 2000 computers that
have SQL Server 7.0 installed. After the application have
run for some period of time (several days or longer), the
SQL Server related performance counters disappeared. They
are disabeld by the OS. The knowledge base article
Q248993 mentions that the performance library of Windows
2000 disables any performance DLL that returns data in the
incorrect format, causes an unhandled program fault, or
takes too long to return the performance data (this is
usually the cause of a library being disabled). It is
obvious the incorrect format does not apply to my case
since it would have caused the problem right after it
started not several days later. Anyone knows what causes
the problem?Did you see Q812915?

well, it doesn't look so good.
i did all the troubleshoot i could find in the web but with a minor success.
it's not a corrupted registry, counters or something like that. out of 5
different machine - only one agreed to cooperate and allow access to those
counters remotely. the rest had varius behavior...
i tried lodctr, unlodctr, exctrlst, diskperf -Y and re-register sqlctr80.dll
with regsvr32 - with no maijor success. even though i got an error message
for the command "regsvr32 sqlctr80.dll" about an entry point that it couldnt
find, i don't think that's the problem.
any more assistance will be appreciated.

Okay... nothing in the sysperinfo table. That would explain why the
counters are reading 0. I'm still trying to track down the problems
though. I will try the rebuild later today and see what happens.

Performance counters
I have noticed that on my server (on which I am a 'co'-

counters are not available in the performance monitoring

performance counters.) Or, could they have been removed?
If so, how? And, finally, can I get them in there without
having to re-install SQL Server?

started SQL Server setup.
It seems like you missed one or two error messages in Windows NT Error Log
when you were installing SQL Server.
It might be one of those HP/Compaq "smart monitoring utilities" that holds
perfh009.dat and/or perfc009.dat files.
Check the following article with your 'co'-administrator and be careful if
this is a production server.

Thanks,
Rick

You may want to check your event logs to see if anything is being
logged.
Check sysperfinfo to see what information is there.
Rebuild the performance counters:

Okay... nothing in the sysperinfo table. That would explain why the
counters are reading 0. I'm still trying to track down the problems
though. I will try the rebuild later today and see what happens.

Performance counters
I have noticed that on my server (on which I am a 'co'-
administrator), the SQL Server specific performance
counters are not available in the performance monitoring
tool. Did I overlook something when I installed SQL
Server? (My development server does in fact show these
performance counters.) Or, could they have been removed?
If so, how? And, finally, can I get them in there without
having to re-install SQL Server?
Any assistance/feedback is greatly appreciated.> I have noticed that on my server (on which I am a 'co'-

started SQL Server setup.

Performance Counter Problems

Hi,
We are running SQL Server 2000 SP3a on Windows 2003 Server.
I use the Performance Log to capture some performance counters and saved
as text file. When I opened the captured file, I discovered that the
SQLServer Counters are not recording anything (\SQLServer:Memory
manager, \SQLServer:Buffer manager, etc ) But other counters like
\Physical Disk: %Disk Time, \Processor:%Processor Time are recording
values.
I will appreciate your help.
Thanks

This article looks promising, it may be a WMI registration issue:
